Maha’s work employs the alternative photographic process of cyanotypes to document the semi abandoned coastal area of Sulaibikhat Bay, Kuwait. The Sulaibikhat Bay is one of Kuwait’s most ecologically significant zones, home to coastal mudflats, migratory birds, and many coastal flora. The area also has a rich archeological history dating back to the Bronze Age that has been severely neglected. Contrasted with its ecological significance are the industrial zones and sewage outpours that seep into the bay.

The artworks in Maha’s series ‘Imprints’ take on sculptural shapes made from found objects such as wood and stones that carry the imprint of the flora found on the Sulaibikhat coastline. These artistic interventions result in modern day artifacts of an industrialized ecological bay. The artworks prompt critical questions about the complexities of human interventions in Kuwait’s coastline.
